Two thousand and seventeen

Last year was a busy year and I am only taking stock of it now. This is my recap of the year that was 2017.

I…

Started a new job

At the beginning of February, 2017 I started working for a UK-based fintech group, Quint. I am part of the innovation hub within the group, aptly named InQbate, based in Cape Town. We seized some great opportunities and it is exciting to be apart of a growing team.

A chilly trip to the UK in December for the group Christmas party wrapped up a positive start to the next chapter in my career. 👍

I also got stuck into the JavaScript framework, Vue.js which I am thoroughly enjoying using on a daily basis. I purchased a great course on Udemy and learning in this format is something I’ll definitely continue with going forward.

Travelled to new places

The highlight of my year was our holiday to Malaysian Borneo and Singapore, with a layover in Mauritius. ✈️

We saw semi-wild Orangutans at the Semenggoh Rehabilitation Centre, went for a hike in Bako National Park, ate amazing food in Singapore’s famous food courts, experienced Singapore’s incredible zoo and had a blast at Universal Studios.

I can’t wait to start our next travel adventure in 2018…

Did some exercise

According to Strava, I ran 498.3 kms and cycled 1,189.9 kms. By no means was that a record for me, which is something I’d like to improve this year. But with an emphasis on quality and not for the sake of it.

Finishing the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon was tough, but rewarding. This year I would like to enter and finish a marathon that I have not yet run before. I am yet to decide which one it’ll be…

Bought a new car

I had always admired Volkswagen’s Golf GTI and I jumped when the opportunity to trade in my previous car came up. It has been amazing to drive so far, having it put it to the test on our road trip to Strandfontein at the end of last year.

Christmas was early this year (last weekend) 🎅

2018

Let’s hope the City of Cape Town can get their act together. The current water crisis is our biggest challenge for the year ahead.

And hopefully I’ll post more regularly on my website. 🤞

Have a good year!
